Meatless Monday

For Valentine's Day, we did fondue, which was very meat based; however, we had bruschetta for an appetizer.  I didn't have a recipe just a picture in my head of the bruschetta that Julia makes in Julie and Julia.

So I mixed red and yellow peppers, garlic and stewed tomatoes in a skillet and heated them all up.  Then Nick sliced up some french bread, and brushed the slices with olive oil.  They were delicious!

Oscar Weekend

Have we discussed how much I love movies?  I think we have, but not only do I love movies, I love award shows.  It is the only celebrity buzz that I care about.

This year the Oscar's are being hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco.  I really like Anne Hathaway, but am a tad concerned about James Franco.  I do have faith though.  The commercials of them practicing for the Oscars are hilarious!

So...here are some of my Oscar picks.  Now, I'm not usually right, but I still like choosing who I want to win.

Best Picture

Actor in a Leading Role

Actor in a Supporting Role

Actress in a Leading Role

Actress in a Supporting Role

Miss Havisham

Last night, I watched P.S. I Love You.

In several parts of the movie, Holly (the main character, whose husband passes away in like the first 15 minutes of the movie) refers to herself as Miss Havisham.  Each time she said the name, I knew that I'd heard it before.  Finally, it dawned on me that it was from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.  I read the book per an assignment in Freshman English.  I didn't like it at the time, probably because I was forced to read it.

At any rate, the story behind Miss Havisham is so sad.

Her mother died when she was very young, so she was raised and spoiled greatly by her father.  When her father died, he left her a fortune in his will.  Later, she finds a man that she loves, and even though she is warned that he is just after her money, she plans their wedding.  While getting dressed for her big day, she receives a letter from her fiance that explains he is leaving her.

Miss Havisham has all of the clocks stopped at that moment, never takes off her wedding dress, leaves the wedding cake uneaten in her room and lives the rest of her life with one shoe on to show her disappointment.

Eventually she adopts a little girl, Estella, and even though Miss Havisham's intentions are good, she eventually teaches Estella to break men's hearts to enact revenge for Miss Havisham's disappointment.

Even though Miss Havisham's upbringing of Estella breaks Pip's, the main character, heart I feel bad for Miss Havisham.

I realize this post may be a tad depressing....so here are some sad looking models in gorgeous wedding gowns to make you happier!

My iPod

I have been really enjoying my iPod Touch lately.  I mentioned in an earlier post that I have started listening to music more and more because I finally found music that I enjoyed.

Here's what I've been listening to.

What have you been jamming to?

California Here We Come

Life has been fairly busy and drab and just plain old tiring lately, so I decided to do a post about one of the best spring breaks I have ever had.

My mom and step-dad moved out to California a few years ago, and my sweet Lindsey and I decided to visit her for spring break.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip.  Linds and I were tired and hungry the whole vacation, but we had such a great time.  Nick and I hope to take a trip out there sometime in the late spring or early summer.

California Here We Come was our anthem on that vacation!

Meatless Monday

This post is a little late in the day, but this soup is amazing.  Once again, this comes from Perrys' Plate.  Oh and you should all stop by there because she is celebrating three years of blogging with an amazing give away!

Okay, back to Meatless Monday!

We replaced the onions with leeks, because that's what we happened to have in the refrigerator.

Nick took this last picture.  He was so proud of his staging, and I think he did a great job.  He ate this soup for lunch a few days later, and said that he tasted even better later.

Missed It

I missed them....all of them!

My day off turned into an evening shift at one of my jobs.  As a result, I missed all of my shows.

I also watch Bones, but it is on at the same time as Grey's so I watch it online during the week.

What shows are you addicted to?

Day Off

Currently, I am working two jobs.  Both of which are part time.  For one job, I leave the house ready to go, run around like crazy and come home and put my feet up.  The other job is from home.  I sit down for a few hours each day and make myself filter through paper work and update things.

Today, however, is kind of a day off.  And all I want to do is lay in bed with a good book (still currently reading Her Fearful Symmetry) and maybe a nice movie marathon to top it off.  Oh, and I want hot tea!

Here are some gorgeous bedrooms I'd want to be in today.

Sweet dreams...

Nail Issue

Lately, my nails have been a disaster.  At any given time, at least three or four of them are cracking or broken to bits, and I am getting mighty tired of it.

According to Wedding Come True.com, split nails can be caused by constantly wetting and drying your nails, nail polish remover or a lack of Omega 3 in your diet.

I've been putting lotion on my hands a lot, but I can't seem to fix the damage or prevent it.  So on Tuesday, I picked up a new product that I am hoping will work.

It is Sally Hansen's Vitamin E Moisturizing Nail and Cuticle Oil.

I'll let you know how it works.  Wish me luck!

Candlestick Holder Redo

I saw this picture in Blissliving Home's catalog and fell in love with the candlestick holders.  I wanted them, but didn't have the time to order them and wait for them to arrive...I wanted them now!

So, I searched through my local Goodwill store and found these babies.  I knew that they would be perfect.  Plus, they were only $9.

From there, I ran to Walmart and purchased a tester of paint in Swan White for about $2.50.  Here is the finished product.

What do you think?  I love them, A LOT!

Here they are lit for Valentine's Day!  Do you have a DIY you are proud of?  Let us know.
