January 2012

Part of my birthday to-do list was to make a calendar.  So...here is the month of January!

This week is in great need of a motto.  Something that I can carry throughout my day as a reminder that I am not the only one having a bad day, that didn't get enough sleep or that is just plain old cranky.

December Movies

We spent December at the movies!  I'm sure I've mentioned multiple times my love of movies, and this year just seemed to be a movie theatre bust.  December, however, gave us many options.
We saw...

I think my favorite of the three was We Bought a Zoo.  I loved the characters and the love story of it all.  Not only was it a story of love lost, but also of a new adventure between a family, a group of animals and new friends.

On Our Nightstands: #8

I finished it....The Name of the Wind, I mean.  It was amazing.

But, I also finished A Wise Man's Fear, which is the second book in the Kingkiller Chronicles.  Both of which I highly recommend.

I enjoyed the richly developed world that Rothfuss created.  The characters captured me and kept me wondering what would happen next and their true motives.  I can't wait for the third installment to come out.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the Kingkiller Chronicles are about the story of a man's life in Rothfuss's created universe.  It has magic, mystical creatures and a fae land.  Overall, it was a great read.

Christmas Decorations

We changed up our tree this year.  Last year was a teal and white theme. This year we did green and red.  I really liked the change because it gave us more options.

We had a great Christmas this year!  Nick got a new computer, drawing pencils, gift cards, a desk chair and a new coat.  I got a KitchenAid Mixer (along with a few awesome attachements), an iPhone and some great gift cards.  Now we are just waiting for my mom to visit in two weeks to finish out the holiday season!

Nick's Birthday

This just goes to show how lazy I've been...Nick's birthday was December 11!  We went out to dinner with a group of friends to celebrate.  It was a lot of fun and Nick got some great gifts.  Sadly, we only took two pictures and one of them is missing a dear friend who is taking the picture.

The first picture is Nick pointing at his sandwich.  We went to the RAM.  His sandwich was huge it had a burger, a split bratwurst, onions and goodness knows what else.

Nick requested a carrot cake for his birthday, so I made another one for him.

Overdue Thanksgiving Pictures

Now that the holiday season is beginning to slow down, it is time for me to post Thanksgiving pictures.  I know, I know, I'm super late!  At any rate, Nick and I celebrated Thanksgiving by ourselves on Thanksgiving day and visited his family the following weekend.  Even though it was only the two of us, we still cooked a full meal.

Nick made macaroni and cheese and the turkey.  He has a special recipe for mac and cheese; it is amazing!  I made the stuffing, a cheese ball and the cauliflower salad.

After our meal, we went to the movies with Nick's sister to see The Muppet Show!
