The Hunger Games

Alright, so have you all read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins?  I read it with a friend from work a few months ago.  We both steam rolled through the quick read and fell in love with the characters while they were fighting for their lives in a tyrannical country.

The same friend and I, plus a few more amazing people, went and saw the midnight showing of the movie based on the book.  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.  Usually I feel this huge backlash to movies based on books.  First of all, I typically make myself read the book before I see the movie and then I spend the whole movie pointing out the differences to myself...depressing!  This movie was different though.  Of course they changed many aspects of the story line to both make it more understandable to someone who had not read the book and to make it fit in the allotted time.  There were few aspects of the change that I saw negatively though.  I won't go into to much detail here, because I know some of you haven't made it to the theatre yet.

I also think that the young actors did an amazing job in this movie.  Not only did they portray the characters amazingly, but it didn't seem forced.  Many movies based on books have to look so hard for young actors to fit parts, that sometimes the craft of acting can be sacrificed, and I do not feel like it was in this adaptation.

The trilogy is a great set though.  I am always happy when people read together and can bond over a book, or when something like this can just bring more people to read.  At any rate, I would highly recommend these books.  Keep in mind though, there is a lot of violence and it does get dark in some places.

Nick's Birthday

This just goes to show how lazy I've been...Nick's birthday was December 11!  We went out to dinner with a group of friends to celebrate.  It was a lot of fun and Nick got some great gifts.  Sadly, we only took two pictures and one of them is missing a dear friend who is taking the picture.

The first picture is Nick pointing at his sandwich.  We went to the RAM.  His sandwich was huge it had a burger, a split bratwurst, onions and goodness knows what else.

Nick requested a carrot cake for his birthday, so I made another one for him.

Welcome to November

Do you know what happend to October?  Because I sure don't.

Lately, I have been living week to week or work schedule to work schedule.  I don't make plans anymore either.  Mostly because my schedule is so unreliable.  I am looking to change this habit and or just starting living to live to have fun.

At any rate, I am also going to try to blog more this month.  So...here is an update as to what is going on with us...

I am still reading the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Ruthfuss. I am now on the second book A Wise Man's Fear. Nick has begun reading the first book.  I am still in love and have a great time talking with a friend at work about it.  We almost have our own little book club (which is a dream of mine).

I am also working hard on my crocheted blanket.  I have over half of it put together and plan on finishing it this month; especially since I am going to start making Christmas stockings and a tree skirt soon.

Beyond those projects.  Nick and I are waiting for a good movie to hit theaters.  We are tired of the releases as of late.

Oh, and the face wash I have been using for over a year now has disappeared from shelves.  I was using St. Ives Blemish and Blackhead Control Apricot Face Wash. It took me a long time to find a good face wash and product line in general that works well with my skin.  I have very sensitive skin.  It likes to break out for odd reasons or have rashes.  I'm allergic to Snuggle and need to be careful to not use Dial soap on a regular basis.  Basically, my skin is picky.  So I am on a hunt for a new line or at lest new face wash.  A blogger that I follow has recently switched to natural skin care products, and I am thinking of following her lead.  I'm in research mode now, but please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Discoveries

Things I have learned in October:

1. If I thought September was busy, I never dreamed of October!

2. I love whipped cream cheese on an everything bagel.

3. Coffee keeps me alive.

4. Making food with friends and hanging out is more relaxing than watching T.V. by myself.

5. I want a comfy oversized sweater... like this one from Gap:

6. Fall/Autumn feels like home.

7. I get wrapped up accomplishing lists and forget to blog.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

A few weeks ago, one of my college roommates and I set out on our date.  We planned to go see a different movie, but ended up seeing Crazy, Stupid, Love.  Now, don't get me wrong, this movie had a lot of, um, PG13 geared things in it;

HOWEVER

I loved it.  Not only was it smart and funny, but it had a great twist that made me love the characters more.  Also, I am in love with 80s movies.  You are reading the blog of the owner of Top Gun, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire....(the list could just go on and on).  At any rate, this movie threw me back there in an interesting way lol.  At any rate, I highly recommend this date movie!

California Here We Come

Life has been fairly busy and drab and just plain old tiring lately, so I decided to do a post about one of the best spring breaks I have ever had.

My mom and step-dad moved out to California a few years ago, and my sweet Lindsey and I decided to visit her for spring break.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip.  Linds and I were tired and hungry the whole vacation, but we had such a great time.  Nick and I hope to take a trip out there sometime in the late spring or early summer.

California Here We Come was our anthem on that vacation!
